The Best Valentine’s Day Ever (Poly Style)

Story time! This one’s too good not to share.
Last year’s (2021) Valentine’s Day? Hands down the best one I’ve ever had. It was romantic, surprising, hilarious, over-the-top, and everything you’d hope for in a beautifully chaotic polyamorous love story.
My husband had secretly planned a romantic dinner—for me, him, and the Godfather (yes, we call him that). The Godfather’s wife happened to be out of town visiting her son, so the three of us had a cozy little evening planned. The only catch? I didn’t know about it yet.
I had been working out of town and was driving back home when I stopped for a quick meet-and-greet with a cute guy I’d been chatting with. It was totally casual—just a quick hello—and then I headed home. What I walked into was such a beautiful surprise.
A dozen roses and a homemade card…
At the bottom, a sweet little heart symbol with a trinity knot inside it—celebrating me and my three boys. My heart melted.
But then—plot twist! I got a surprise call from Orion, who had flown into the area last-minute. The boys were more than happy to reschedule our romantic dinner for the next night (when the Godfather’s wife would be back in town), and I jumped in the car and drove two hours to see Orion.
And oh, did he deliver.
We spent the night at the Ritz-Carlton on Naples Beach—in a penthouse suite that was literally the last hotel room available in the area. His company had pulled some strings and booked it for him, and it was spectacular. A one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath oceanfront suite… at $3,800 a night. Yes, the most expensive room I’ve ever stayed in, and every bit as outrageous and special as it sounds.
We chatted with Orion’s wife for a while—she was totally supportive—and then the two of us soaked up an unforgettable night of luxury, laughter, and connection.
But honestly? The best part of it all was this: every one of my partners was genuinely happy for me.
This year? My husband and I stayed home, cooked dinner together, and had a quiet, lovely night in. Different kind of special—but just as sweet.
That’s the beauty of polyamory. Valentine’s Day isn’t about pressure or expectation anymore. It’s about love in all its forms, and how it can surprise you if you’re open to it.
You never know what kind of magic might show up when you leave room for joy.
