Happy Enough? Let’s Talk About That.

It’s such a simple question:
"How are you doing? Are you happy?"

And yet, how often do we respond with something like,
"I’m happy… happy enough."

What does happy enough even mean?

Is it contentment? Resignation? Survival? A placeholder for what we think we should be feeling?

I caught myself using that phrase the other day, and it hit me how common it is—not just for me, but for so many of us. We say we're "happy enough" because it feels too vulnerable to admit we're not thriving. Or too indulgent to say we're doing really well.

But here’s the thing: “happy enough” shouldn’t be the bar.

Life is short. Relationships evolve. Jobs come and go. Emotions are fluid. So why settle into the lukewarm in-between of “enough”?

Real happiness might not be a permanent state—it can come in waves—but we owe it to ourselves to aim higher than just fine.

So the next time someone asks how you're doing, take a breath.
Check in with yourself. And decide if "happy enough" is really where you want to land.

Or if maybe—just maybe—there’s more joy to chase.
